StartYear Terms of Use
The terms for using StartYear, including what Full StartYear includes, payments and refunds, and your rights.
Version terms-2026-10-04 Effective 4 October 2026 Digitalis Health Pty Ltd
About these terms
These terms are between you and Digitalis Health Pty Ltd, which operates StartYear. By creating a StartYear you agree to the version shown, and we record that version and the time you accepted it. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information.
Who can use StartYear
You must be an adult with authority to make decisions about, and provide information on, the child you create a StartYear for. Do not use StartYear if that authority is disputed, if a court or care arrangement prevents it, or if entering the information could put anyone at risk.
Keep your Apple account and any invitation links secure, and don't share access to your account.
What StartYear does
StartYear checks when your child can start under your state or territory's rules, asks structured questions about how your child manages day to day, can include an educator's observations, and gives you a StartYear Decision Plan: a current direction, the reasons for it, what could change it, a short preparation focus and a date to review.
Where a start option needs approval, an exemption or another non-standard pathway, StartYear tells you to confirm it with the school or education authority rather than treating it as an ordinary option.
What StartYear is not
StartYear is decision support for families. It is not a diagnosis, a clinical or psychological assessment, or a school-readiness test, and it cannot guarantee how your child will go at school. It does not make enrolment decisions or approve exemptions or deferrals, and it does not replace advice from your child's school, early learning service, education authority or health professionals.
The Decision Plan is based on the information you and any educator enter. Check that information, and confirm rules, supports and options with the relevant school or authority before you decide.
Full StartYear and payment
Checking when your child can start is free. Full StartYear is a one-off in-app purchase for one child and one start-year decision. The price is shown in the App Store before you buy. There is no subscription.
Full StartYear gives access to the full assessment, educator invitation, Decision Plan, preparation focus and one review for that decision, for up to 12 months or until the start of the school year you are deciding about, whichever comes first. For a kindy or preschool decision, access runs until 1 October of the kindy year instead, so the included review can be used in Term 3, when the school start year is decided. A kindy Decision Plan is a provisional plan for the pre-prep year and the school year it usually leads to.
Payments are processed by Apple under Apple's terms. You can restore a purchase on a device signed in with the same account.
Refunds and your consumer rights
Refund requests for App Store purchases are made to Apple through reportaproblem.apple.com. If you have a problem with StartYear itself, email us and we will help.
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that cannot be excluded. If StartYear fails to meet a consumer guarantee, you are entitled to a remedy.
Educator invitations
If you invite an educator, choose an appropriate person, tell them their answers will be shared with you, send the link through a suitable channel, and tell us promptly if it goes to the wrong person. StartYear does not verify an educator's identity, qualifications or relationship with your child. Educators never see your answers to the support questions.
Using StartYear properly
Provide only the information StartYear asks for, don't misuse or try to interfere with the service, and tell us about suspected unauthorised access, a misdirected invitation or a material error.
We may pause the service, limit new information collection for a state, territory or stage, or suspend an account to protect users, investigate an incident, fix an urgent problem or comply with the law. If we do, you can still view, download and delete what you have saved.
Research
Using StartYear does not enrol you or your child in research. We will not use your information for research without a separate, approved process and your consent.
Ending use
You can stop using StartYear and delete your information at any time. We may end access if continuing would create a safety, privacy or security risk, if you materially breach these terms, or if required by law. If we stop offering Full StartYear during an active access period for reasons other than your breach, you can contact us about a remedy.
Law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, and you and we submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New South Wales.
Contact us by email for support, privacy requests and complaints.
